An olden but golden video from a French and Saunders episode. The sketch was called ‘The Easy Guitar Book Sketch’ and featured David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler, Gary Moore, Mark King and Lemmy
On the eve of their Vivid Live 2014 performance at Sydney’s iconic Opera House, Midnight Juggernauts had a quick chat with Roland about their new show “Aerials” and how two instruments of the AIRArange, the TR-8 and SYSTEM-1 have fast become centrepieces of the audio/visual spectacular.
Since the release of their debut album, “Dystopia” in 2007, the Midnight Juggernauts have been at the forefront of the Australian electronic music scene and show no signs of slowing down.
Two of Australasia’s most exciting young musicians will join forces this July and August for a co-headline tour across the country. Singer-songwriters Melody Pool, hailing from the Hunter Valley, NSW and Marlon Williams originally from Christchurch, NZ will treat audiences to their outstanding individual talents for a run of shows that are certain to captivate audiences everywhere.
Melody has spent the last 12 months touring the World including a sold-out tour of the UK and Europe with The Milk Carton Kids, and also the Americana Music Festival in Nashville. In June Melody will join Gabrielle Aplin on her Heavenly Sounds shows in both Brisbane and Sydney.
Living up to the hype, Williams featured on SBS’ Rockwiz last week and has been announced as main support for the First Aid Kit tour in July. He also performed at the Sydney Opera House in April for TEDx Sydney alongside Megan Washington and Lior. ‘Strange Things’ (released 28 May) is the first single from Williams’ debut solo album, due for release in October. Lilting, quirky, beautiful and haunting, ‘Strange Things’ offers a taste of Williams dark sense of humour, and ability to find magic in the morbid.

Since its launch in January, VoiceLive 3 has quickly proven itself to be an impressive 3-in-1-performance system for vocal processing, guitar FX and phrase looping, but innovation doesn’t stop there. Today, TC-Helicon announces a new firmware update based on user comments and artist suggestions – improving several functions, including a wide variety of fixes, tweaks and upgrades. The biggest overall change is to the feel, accuracy and musicality of the onboard looper, which is destined to make a massive difference for live performance.
“Customer feedback over the last few months has been essential in helping us produce this update and we’re pleased to offer it. The response to the Beta versions we’ve posted has been hugely enthusiastic with users reporting vastly improved feel and a more rewarding overall looping experience. We went through 50 internal test versions to get it exactly how we wanted so, especially regarding the looper, it’s a real game-changer.” says Product Manager, Tom Lang.
New Update Features
• Looper – Timing precision of record, overdub, swap and playback increased for more natural looping.
• Looper – Allow smart sync from any loop to any loop (A used to have to be the master)
• UI – Added Loop Input options for STEP and Switch-3 (watch the video for an explanation of how it works)
• Looper – Playback position easier to see (larger/wider bar)
• Looper – Added input and sync mode indicators to the looper screen display
• Looper – Improved sensitivity of waveform display (less likely to show no waveforms with lower level input)
• Looper – More accurate tracking of free space available
• Looper – Added warning for no loop space remaining
• Looper – Show warning if user turns off MET in quantize mode (MET on/mute is required for Quantize to work properly)
• UI – Added popup for loop input changes via STEP and Switch-3
• UI – Added current Key/Scale display to Home screen
• UI – Updated USB drive detection
• UI – Reduce Mixer screen timeout duration
• UI – Added “speedbump” detent to any parameter with symmetric values.
*In english* If the parameter goes equal distances one way and the other, like Pan, it’ll stop in the middle now. It makes it much easier to get “back to 0”.
• UI – Added expression pedal vocal level target
• UI – Store LED now lights when store page is active
How To Get The Firmware
– Download and install VoiceSupport – TC-Helicon’s free app for PC/Mac
– Connect VoiceLive 3 to your computer using the supplied USB cable
– Launch VoiceSupport
– After the updates have downloaded, click on the Firmware tab
– Click on the topmost firmware version. It will likely say “New” next to it.
– Allow the update process to complete. DO NOT UNPLUG OR REBOOT YOUR UNIT!
– The device will come back to normal operating status on its own

Joe Bonamassa has announced his Australian tour dates for September 2014. Kicking off in Sydney on September 14, the whirlwind trip will finish up a week later in Perth on September 21, after shows in Adelaide and Melbourne.
To mark the tour announcement, a new Free Song Download from Joe Bonamassa has been made available. Go to www.jbonamassa.com/freemp3 to claim your copy. The new live show will offer two stellar band line-ups with Joe Bonamassa dividing the show in half, offering audiences both a full acoustic and a full electric set. This will be Bonamassa’s first time performing a full acoustic set in Australia for local audiences.
The first set will feature Bonamassa alongside the acoustic band from his #1 Billboard acoustic CD/DVD An Acoustic Evening At The Vienna Opera House playing an assortment of rare, vintage, organic and unusual instruments alongside performers Gerry O’Connor (fiddle/mandolin), Mats Wester (Swedish keyed fiddle), and Lenny Castro (percussion). Together they will run through an hour of the celebrated signature acoustic performance from Bonamassa’s Vienna show, treating the audience to a gorgeously textured unplugged experience. Bonamassa will then shift into electric mode for the second half of the show, which will feature his acclaimed touring band: Carmine Rojas (bass), Tal Bergman (drums), and new touring keyboardist (and fellow Black Country Communion member) Derek Sherinian.
Recent honours for Bonamassa include his first Grammy nomination for Best Blues Album (Seesaw with Beth Hart), his twelfth #1 Billboard Blues Album (Live In Amsterdam, with Beth Hart) – giving him more Billboard Blues #1 albums than any other artist (surpassing even Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton and the great BB King) and his DVD Joe Bonamassa: Live At The Royal Albert Hall, earning platinum status.
