DIVINYLS REBOOTED LINE-UP TOUR REHEARSAL SNEAK PEEK

Posted in Blog    //    Post Date - January 17, 2019

Ahead of their upcoming Australian tour, the rebooted Divinyls featuring founding member, guitarist and songwriter Mark McEntee has introduced the band’s cracking new vocalist Lauren Ruth Ward and all Australian rhythm section via a sneak peek performance clip taken at recent rehearsals in Perth, Western Australia.

The new combination featuring McEntee, Lauren Ruth Ward and Aussies J Cortez and Malcolm Clarke rip through a snippet of the classic Divinyls track Boys In Town breathing a new energy into the song, paying homage to the past but definitely dragging the material kicking and screaming into 2019.

“For true fans of Divinyls music, this is a chance to relive some of those great songs live again,” states McEntee. “It’s not about replacing anybody,” he continues, “this tour is about getting the chance to play and bloody celebrate these great songs again, live and loud, and hopefully people are interested in that.” On the addition of Lauren Ruth Ward McEntee adds, “I’d never seriously thought about getting Divinyls back on the road until I heard Lauren sing, there had been offers, but this girl is the real thing and I just had to jump on the opportunity.”

Lauren Ruth Ward is a force of nature. Having moved to Los Angeles in 2015, the Los Angeles-based artist quickly built a large and loyal local following with her 70s-tinged psych-blues swagger and voice of gold. As a young up and coming artist Lauren brings her own voice and message to Divinyls, while at the same time respecting the legacy and lyrics of the late great Chrissy Amphlett.

The reformed Divinyls hit the road in late February with only one thing to prove, how great these enduring anthems still are and how much they still mean to so many.

GIBSON ANNOUNCES LIMITED-EDITION CHRIS CORNELL TRIBUTE GUITAR

Posted in Blog, Electric Guitars, Gear    //    Post Date - January 16, 2019

GIBSON announced today, Tuesday, January 15, the release of a limited-edition Chris Cornell Tribute ES-335 guitar. The guitar will officially be unveiled at “I Am The Highway: A Tribute To Chris Cornell” the star-studded concert event honoring Chris Cornell’s legacy and contribution to music history on Wednesday, January 16 at The Forum in Los Angeles. For more information, visit: http://www.chriscornell.com.

“Chris Cornell was not only one of the most iconic singer songwriters of all time, he was a modern innovator who left a legacy that transcends music genres and generations,” says Cesar Gueikian, Chief Merchant Officer, GIBSON. “It is our honor to release this tribute ES-335 in his memory. It’s a guitar Chris fell in love with and which became a part of his creative expression. Chris was a special artist and we hope that this guitar will inspire fans to find their sound, and inspiration, just like Chris did, for many years to come.”

GIBSON partnered with Chris to work on his original ES-335 Artist Model and it was immediately clear that he had an innovative eye for guitar design. Features like the aged Lollartron humbucking pickups, clear “no number” Top Hat knobs, Olive Drab Satin finish, and Mother-of-Pearl Chris Cornell ‘signature’ peghead inlay make this guitar one of GIBSON’s most distinct artist offerings to date. Available in a limited release of only 250 pieces available for purchase worldwide in Spring 2019.

The “I Am The Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell” will feature members of Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, and Audioslave, as well as, special performances from the Foo Fighters, Metallica, Ryan Adams, and more. Jimmy Kimmel will be on hand to host the concert. Tickets will benefit The Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation, and The Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to raising funds and awareness for this painful and debilitating genetic disorder. GIBSON will donate two of the limited-edition Chris Cornell ES-335 models in partnership with the show to raise additional monies for both foundations.

GIBSON announced today, January 14 it will unveil a new era in product evolution and brand building with multiple experiences at NAMM 2019 next week in Anaheim, CA. The GIBSON NAMM 2019 experience will feature daily events from artist performances, Q&A’s and new product debuts at the GIBSON space in Room #207, (daily 11-5pm). As the guitar of choice for legendary artists working in rock, pop, country, blues, folk, jazz and beyond, the new GIBSON era celebrates the legacies of iconic models like the Les Paul, the SG and the ES-335. GIBSON will continue to closely collaborate with and service its legacy roster, at the same time looking to the future with instruments that will nurture new players across generations, genders and genres.

Guiding the iconic brand into this fresh era is a newly-appointed leadership team of global professionals, headed by President and Chief Executive Officer James “JC” Curleigh. Curleigh brings with him decades of experience in building world-class brands, as well as a player’s passion and reverence for the guitar. His vision for GIBSON is simple: “We want to be the most relevant, the most played, and the most loved music brand in the world.”

At the core of that vision is GIBSON’s unrivaled share of sound–the reach and influence of the brand’s legacy and instruments. And it is that reach and influence that to this day inspires countless players in bars and clubs and bedrooms across the globe. “Gibson has been shaping sound since 1894,” says Cesar Gueikian, the company’s newly-appointed Chief Merchant Officer. “And so, we stand here in 2019 and say, ‘We want to take that ideal into the future to continue to shape music and own the share of sound for the next 125 years.” This involves GIBSON looking back as much as looking forward. From new, historically accurate legacy models to contemporary updates and the renewed commitment to additional brands under the GIBSON umbrella, including Epiphone, Kramer, Steinberger, KRK Systems, Cerwin Vega, and Stanton. “It all starts and ends with the creation of compelling product,” Curleigh says. “Our new classics are true classics, and our modern guitars will provide contemporary solutions. We are also excited about the progress we have made on Gibson acoustics, Epiphone expansion, and KRK innovation. Curleigh continues, “Heading into 2019, we are confident we are off to a solid start and we are proud of the progress we have made towards our vision.”

EARTHLESS AUSTRALIA & NZ DATES SOON. FEB/MARCH 2019

Posted in Blog    //    Post Date - January 14, 2019

California psychedelic heavyweights EARTHLESS will return to Australia and New Zealand next February and March in support of their acclaimed 2018 studio album Black Heaven and their new live album From the West. Comprised of singer/guitarist Isaiah Mitchell, drummer Mario Rubalcaba and bassist Mike Eginton, EARTHLESS have previously toured down under four times; the last time in 2015. In the intervening years, the primarily instrumental trio has embraced Isaiah’s soulful vocals, featured on more than half the tracks on Black Heaven, and local fans will hear these newer tracks, as well as many older deep cuts, in these upcoming shows.

Formed in 2001 in San Diego and citing Japanese psych bands like Blues Creation and Krautrock bands like Amon Düül II as early inspiration, EARTHLESS have risen to the top of the hard rock/heavy psych scenes in recent years, on the back of a strong DIY work ethic. Recently signed to international heavy music label Nuclear Blast, EARTHLESS is now reaching wider audiences than ever before, which is in keeping with the band’s own diverse tastes and pursuits.  While EARTHLESS is their primary artistic focus, Mitchell also has another longstanding psych project, Golden Void, and drummer Mario Rubalcaba is a member of Rocket from the Crypt, Hot Snakes and hardcore supergroup Off! alongside Black Flag/Circles Jerks frontman Keith Morris and Redd Kross bass player Steve McDonald.

Black Heaven was recorded at Rancho de la Luna in Joshua Tree, California with Dave Catching of the Eagles of Death Metal producing, and From The West was recorded live in San Francisco in March of this year, immediately after Black Heaven was released. The live album, with its electrifying live takes on Led Zeppelin’s “Communication Breakdown” and Black Heaven opener “Gifted By the Wind” sitting alongside monumental versions of earlier jams like “Uluru Rock” and “Acid Crusher,” suggests we’re all in for a wild ride when they get here.

WATCH: ‘’Volt Rush’’ Below:

The shift towards more vocals is explained by Rubalcaba: “It wasn’t a premeditated thing to do a record with vocals. On the older records, Mike was responsible for a lot of the riffs that would start these jams, but on this one, Isaiah really brought his own pizazz and flavor to it. I’d say that’s one of the major differences on this album: It has more of Isaiah’s input. He took a risk bringing these ideas to us, not knowing if we’d like them. But as with everything we’ve done in the past, it felt very organic and natural.”
“For me personally, the psychedelic thing is pretty important,” Rubalcaba continues. “But I’m not sure if we’ll always be on the crazier side of things musically. Even on this record, there are moments when it’s more psyched-out, but we’ve always been really big fans of classic rock stuff like ZZ Top, James Gang, Allman Brothers—and of course, Cream. There would be no EARTHLESS if it wasn’t for Cream. They’re like the great-grandfathers of power trios. So, some of those simpler influences have leaked through on this record. To me, [album opener] “Gifted By The Wind” has a more James Gang or ZZ Top vibe than Flower Travellin’ Band or any of the krautrock stuff. With all the vocals and harmonies, that’s definitely a different direction for us.”

New direction or not, EARTHLESS’s flamethrower approach remains – their music melts and burns and completely envelopes an audience. Old fans and new will not be disappointed when they head back down in February.
