EXCLUSIVE MICHAEL NESMITH INTERVIEW: 2019 AUSTRALIAN MONKEES TOUR

Ahead of the highly anticipated “The Monkees Present: The Mike & Micky Show” (Featuring Mike Nesmith and Micky Dolenz) tour of Australia and New Zealand in June, Australian Musician’s Greg Phillips sat down with Mike Nesmith at The Troubadour in LA in an exclusive in-depth interview. Mike spoke about his early days, The Monkees, his solo career and many other artistic endeavours, as well as his love of Australia and New Zealand.

Performing all their hits with The Monkees spanning more than 50 years, as well as all of those marvellous Mike and Micky hit singles, this will be the first time Mike has appeared in Australia or New Zealand since the release of his 1977 “Live At The Palais”. “The Monkees Present: The Mike & Micky Show” is the latest chapter in Monkee-mania, a saga that began in 1965 when four young men were cast in a television show about a struggling rock band that was inspired by the Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night.   Few could have predicted the impact The Monkees would have on music and pop culture at large, one that still reverberates more than 50 years later.

Post-Monkees, Mike Nesmith continued his successful songwriting and performing career, first with the seminal country rock group the First National Band and then as a solo artist. He also earned critical acclaim as executive producer of the cult film Repo Man and won the first Grammy Award presented in the category of Video of the Year for his long from music video Elephant Parts, a show which eventually morphed into MTV.
